STA. ANA, Cagayan – Business magnate Katrina Ponce Enrile is running for congresswoman in Cagayan’s first district in 2022, seeking to reclaim the seat once occupied by her brother Jackie and his wife Salvacion.
This makes the race a three-cornered fight among reelectionist Rep. Ramon Nolasco Jr. of the Liberal Party (LP) and now National Unity Party, retired police general Roberto Damian and Ponce Enrile, daughter for former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
Enrile  formally announced her intention to run for congresswoman at the Anguib Beach in Casagan village last week.
“Personal na kagustuhan ko ang maglingkod, walang umudyok sakin, nakalinya sa Cagayan ang aking mga adhikain at handa akong makinig at gawin ang tama,” she said in her post on Facebook.
Cagayan’s first legislative district consists of the town of Lal-lo which was Cagayan’s former capital, and adjacent towns of Alcala, Aparri, Baggao, Gattaran, Gonzaga, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita and Santa Ana.
Enrile admitted she is young in politics but said she is a “diligent student” who has been learning the ropes of public service.

She also said she learned a lot being a constant companion of her father in her public service for decades.

Enrile said her father is her “inspiration” and the “legacy of the former senator’s service would be her springboard.”
She said she has served the Cagayanos actually for a long time but she has not publicized these, debunking claims that she is making herself felt only now in the province.
She urged the people of the first district of Cagayan not to be bullied by the threats of her possible challengers in the election, pointing out that they are free to make their own choices.
Katrina said she will attend to the needs and concerns of the people in the district.
